I come to the field of abundance/ life coaching as a second career, after first majoring in electrical engineering at Brown University and then working in the corporate world of high tech in both sales and marketing. After realizing that my passions lay in helping people at a deeper level, I went back to school and obtained my Masters in Social Work at Simmons School of Social Work in Boston, a program specializing in psychotherapy. I’ve worked in community mental health settings as a clinician and administrator with a very wide range of populations and issues and also went back to Simmons to work as Adjunct Faculty, teaching a Racism and Oppression course for many years. My racial identity as a 3rd generation Asian American was critical in informing my decision to teach this course and greatly enhanced my abilities in this area. I’ve also consulted to the counseling department of Milton Academy, a private preparatory school in the Boston area, regarding issues of Asian cultural values, racial identity, the differing value systems between Asian countries and the US and how to bridge the two.
After many years honing my skills as a psychotherapist, my curiosity was provoked by course offerings in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). EFT is a wonderful energy psychology method which uses acupressure points that one “taps on” to quickly eliminate uncomfortable emotions and limiting beliefs about oneself and the world. By removing these barriers, people can feel freer to move forward towards their passions and best self. I have been using EFT for the past 14 years of my 20+ years in this field and trained extensively by Carol Look, EFT Master and international speaker and Dr. Henry Grayson, EFT Master. I continue to immerse myself in this method through a mentoring/consultation group led by Carol Look and am certified in her abundance coaching program. In addition, I have advanced trauma training taught by Dr. Janina Fisher, a cutting edge trauma expert, EMDR training, neuroscience/mindfulness, DBT and Polyvagal training, as well as on-going consultation with a trauma expert. I have a strong commitment to personal development and training and believe that it is a lifelong process – we are always students.
I am currently in both an abundance/ life coaching and psychotherapy practice in Lexington, MA, a mother of teenagers and in a relationship of 30+ years to my husband. Little did I realize how much “real life” would be an intrinsic and essential part of my training as a psychotherapist and abundance/ life coach and how much it would deepen my understanding and compassion to peoples’ struggles and their courage to take the risks to overcome them.
